iPod/Mobile Devices

Posted on March 9, 2013 at 3:25 PM

I get asked quite a bit about why Faio doesn't work properly on some mobile devices, and sometimes people even go as far as to report this as a problem.

Faio makes use of Adobe's Flash Player to allow you to stream episodes. Flash works pretty well with just about all computer browsers, however, Adobe has discontinued support for mobile devices not that long ago. I know for a fact that you can still install Flash on Android devices by making use of a workaround, although I'm not sure about Apple devices.

I'm sorry, but Faio is currently only intended to be used from a computer, such as a desktop or laptop. It's simply too much work for an individual like me to support mobile viewing in addition to keeping the main website updated, as the two would use totally different technologies. It's possible that someday Faio can hire someone to develop an app, or possibly re-create the website to support more devices, but this is rather unlikely.

Update: some of you have offered to assist in the development of a mobile version. Thank you so much for the offer, however, Faio plans to keep things in-house for now. I'm looking at some very viable options that might become a reality in the near future, so stay tuned!

Thanks for your understanding, and happy listening! 8)

You know admin, I'm still willing to do some site design for faio, I still have my old faio html 5 prototype webpages.

Just program the episodes in HTML5. It's supported on most browsers (including computers and mobile devices), and doesn't require any downloads. Shouldn't be too hard to reprogram the episode pages. You may then just want to reformat a mobile version of the website.
